If you wish to study abroad or work in any foreign country, IELTS will be the first thing on your checklist. IELTS certification is often a part of the eligibility criteria for most countries, and is also useful to demonstrate your English proficiency when applying for admission to any university or job at a leading company.

What is IELTS?

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is a globally recognised English language test that is accepted by over 11,000 organisations around the world. This international-level English test is popularly used as an immigration criterion to permit international students and professionals into countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It involves tests to assess and define your speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities using a band score from 1 to 9. There are two types of IELTS examination –the IELTS Academic test for students seeking to enrol into universities and the IELTS General test for people who wish to work in or emigrate to English-speaking countries.

Where Can You Use the IELTS Score?

Before taking an IELTS test, it is important to plan your goals and how you want to use your IELTS scores.

To Study: The IELTS Academic test evaluates your English language expertise in an academic context. The IELTS score is one of the mandatory criteria to be eligible for joining top universities in many countries such as Australia, the USA, the UK, New Zealand and Canada, among others.
To Work: If you wish to work with large multinational companies and global brands in any country, IELTS certification, through IELTS Academic or General test, is popularly used to prove your English proficiency. Employers from different sectors such as education, construction, banking and finance, energy and natural resources, aviation, health, tourism and even government organisations have IELTS in their job eligibility requirements. Various professional registration authorities in different fields, such as engineering, medicine and nursing, law, and accounting, also use IELTS to determine the English language proficiency of the candidates.
To Emigrate: The IELTS general test is widely accepted proof of language proficiency for migrating to foreign countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA, among others. Achieving an IELTS score that meets the requirements of a specific country will make you eligible to move and settle there permanently.
