Dubai is known for its efficient and modern transportation system, which makes it easy to get around the city. However, if you are new to Dubai, it can be hard to figure out all the transport options available to travel across the city. So before you arrive to study English here at ES Dubai English School, here’s a simple guide to help you understand the different means of transport available in Dubai.
Firstly, we have the Dubai Metro – a fast and convenient way to explore the city. The metro system has two lines, the Red Line and the Green Line, that connect most parts of Dubai and operates from 5:30 am to midnight on weekdays and until 1 am on weekends. You can always check the official RTA (Road and Transport Authority) website for updated and correct metro timings from your desired station. With air-conditioned trains and free Wi-Fi, the Dubai Metro is a great option for those looking to travel quickly and comfortably. And the best part? The views! Whether you’re travelling above ground or underground, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Dubai’s skyline and landmarks. The nearest station to reach ES Dubai by metro is DMCC metro station. Just make sure to get a rechargeable Nol Card with a minimum balance of AED7.50 or a valid ticket from the metro station for your journey before you hop on the metro, and you’re good to go!
The Dubai Bus network that covers almost every part of the city is a cost-effective way to get around. The buses are air-conditioned, with different types available, including regular, express, and metro feeder buses. Like the Dubai metro, fares are based on the distance travelled and the public transport zones covered, and you can pay with your Nol Card. There are a number of bus stops in different parts of the city; the closest to our English school is the JLT Silver Tower bus stop, which you can reach by boarding the RTA JLT2 bus. The bus system is an affordable way to get around Dubai and it’s perfect for those who want to enjoy the city views while travelling.
The Dubai Tram runs along the city’s popular Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) and Dubai Marina areas. The tram system has 11 stations that connect to the Dubai Metro at two stations – Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Dubai Marina, making it easy to transfer between the two systems. The tram operates from 6:00 am to 1:00 am daily and until 2 am on weekends. The trams are air-conditioned and can be accessed using the RTA Nol card, making it an enjoyable and affordable way to travel.
For those who prefer a more comfortable and private mode of transportation, taxis are a great option. They are readily available and can be hailed on the street or booked through one of the many taxi booking apps available in the city. Taxis are metered, and fares are based on the distance travelled and the time of day. The taxis are regulated by the government and available in different types, including regular taxis, ladies’ taxis, and luxury taxis. The regular taxis are painted in a cream colour with a red, orange, yellow, green or blue roof, while the ladies’ taxis have a pink roof and are driven by female drivers only. The luxury taxis, on the other hand, are black and offer a more premium and comfortable ride. So whether you need to get to the airport or explore the city, a taxi is a great option to get you where you need to go in comfort and convenience.
Water taxis run along the Dubai Creek and Dubai Marina and offer a scenic view of the city’s skyline. Water taxis are operated by the RTA and can be booked through their official website or by visiting one of the water taxi stations located along the waterways. The taxis can accommodate up to ten passengers and are air-conditioned for your comfort. They operate from early morning until late at night, making them a great way to explore the city both during the day and at night. Whether you want to see the city’s landmarks with a different view or enjoy a relaxing ride along the waterways, a water taxi is a unique and enjoyable way to experience Dubai.
If you prefer a private vehicle to explore Dubai, you can rent a car from one of the many car rental companies available in the city. You will need an international driving licence and a valid credit card to rent a car in Dubai. However, electric vehicle rentals are becoming increasingly popular in Dubai as they are not only eco-friendly but also affordable and convenient. With rental companies like EV-RT, Ekar, and UDrive, you can easily rent an e-car for a few hours or several days. Most e-car rental companies have apps that allow you to locate the nearest car and book it on the go. Plus, charging stations are readily available across the city. Keep in mind that driving in Dubai can be a bit hectic, so make sure you’re comfortable with the city’s driving rules and regulations before hitting the road.
If you’re looking for an easy, convenient, and eco-friendly way to explore Dubai, you might want to give public e-scooters and bicycles a try. Several companies now offer electric scooters and bicycles that can be rented by the hour or even by the minute through a smartphone app. You simply download an app, locate the nearest scooter or bike, and unlock it with your smartphone. These sleek and stylish vehicles are perfect for short trips around the city and can reach speeds of up to 25 km/h. Many e-scooters and bikes also have safety features such as lights and reflectors, making them safe to ride at night. Dubai also has dedicated bike lanes and scooter paths in some areas, making it easier and safer to ride around the city. So, next time you want a fun and environmentally-friendly way to get around, hop on an e-scooter or bike and explore this incredible city on two wheels!
Whether you prefer the convenience of the metro, the affordability of the bus, the comfort of a taxi, the uniqueness of a water taxi, the flexibility of a rental car, or the eco-friendliness of e-scooters and bicycles, there’s an option for everyone. The RTA’s website is a great resource for finding out more about the city’s transportation system, fares, and schedules. Make your commute easy and comfortable while studying at our English language school in Dubai by planning your journey and transport methods ahead of time.
